The IRISYS-IIITD lab was inaugurated on 28 January, 2016, which has been set up in collaboration with IIITD and Irisys Co. Ltd., a South Korean company that deals with biometric and information security solution market. This is a landmark collaboration of IIIT Delhi with three South Korean companies.
The programme started with lighting of lamp by Prof. Pankaj Jalote and the guests. Prof. Jalote warmly welcomed the audience and talked about the trade between India and Korea and that it was a good opportunity to work together in field of technology. He expects students to be able to deliver and learn from this incredible opportunity.
The Guest of Honour for the event was Mr. Hyun Cho, the Ambassador of Republic of Korea. He talked about importance of research and development in daily lives, and expects that talented Indian youngsters, with the help of platform provided by the South Korean companies will be able to make a difference in the dynamic IT field. He mentioned attending the FICCI summit, where he discussed about expanding reach of Korean companies in India with PM Narendra Modi. He invited students to visit Korea to learn about technological advancements, so that India is not only world’s largest democracy but also becomes an influential economy.
The Vice President of NASSCOM, Mr. Shivendra Singh, said that opening of this lab is just an example of how things are going to be in the future. He talked about cloud based infrastructure, which can reduce costs and transform businesses, social enterprises, mobile-based applications, big data analytics, internet of things- all of which will change the dynamics of industry as it grows. He mentioned that human resource talent plays a key role in this industry and how there is a dearth of skilled professionals around the world. India is touted as the hotbed for such talent.He saw great potential for an IOT lab.
The inaugural address was given by Mr. Sungeun Han, Founder and CEO of Irisys Co. Ltd. He started the company back in 2012, and has been the IT field for about ten years now. He expressed his gratitude and wishes for the newly set up lab and expects that the outcomes will raise the bar on technology and security solutions. He said it is important to focus on each single day and give your best everyday.
Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Donghoon Chang who is Assistant Professor from IIIT Delhi and hails from South Korea. He said that while South Korea is great at hardware, they are looking forward to India for the software related skills. So such collaborations would complement both sides, and both can grow in this partnership. He also mentioned that IIIT Delhi is a very unique college, to have accepted a foreigner as its member. He hoped that many of the students would go on to lead companies and encouraged everyone who is interested in research and development to reap benefits from the new establishment. This was followed by inauguration of the IRISYS-IIITD R&D lab, situated on 4th floor of Academic block, IIITD.
